The rarest of all human qualities is consistency

This painting has many themes for me to ponder. The title speaks of the story of the birth of my two children, Bruno and OLLIES Boutique (our new shop in Prague) on the same day… I have told you this story before and you can find it in my feed on instagram.

However, you will find a different message hidden in the painting than the title, which is unusual, to which I have an even stronger connection.

Sometimes when I tell the story of my time at OLLIES, the moment I say that we took over the business from my parents, I feel like, yep you had it easy, you were born well and so on. And it’s true that my brother and I have been given a great gift, and that’s that our parents came up with the idea and they paved the way for us and also that they always guided us towards entrepreneurship, and not everybody has that and it’s a great advantage. 

However, when we took over the business, in 2009, it was only turning over 5 milions CZK a year. Now it’s 110. That means my brother and I have managed to multiply it 22 times. ✌️I’m not usually one for numbers, but that’s quite a lot isn’t it? 

The first ten years were so exhausting. And I’m so happy they’re over 😄 Family crisis, sibling crisis, personal crisis, so many different screw ups from our people, so many different stumbles, falls that almost led to the bankruptcy of the whole company…. And yet, my brother and I were there almost daily, for 15 years straight, popping in again and again, literally day and night ( we had sleepless nights, especially in the era of croissants that wouldn’t wait until morning and on strong days like Valentine’s Day, when literally our entire families and people’s families were making them)

There were days when I really didn’t feel like going there. When I’d give anything to not have to go, just to not own the company 🤯 and I went anyway. Because somehow I always knew inside that it was worth it.

And now that I’m typing this happy ending here I’m smiling and enjoying it. What OLLIES has brought us so far. What experiences, connections, possibilities. And I look forward to what it will bring us next.
